Running to the Aid of Our Youth
Go the Distance for Easton ROCKS After School and the YMCA of Talbot County
It’s Amazing, But True
You can complete the extraordinary in just 4 to 6 months, and in your spare time! Just a little courage and a belief in yourself is all it takes to get started, and the coaches and your teammates help with the rest.
Marathon ROCKS is designed to train the average, everyday person to run or walk either a half marathon (13.1 miles) or run full marathon (26.2). Our runners are busy people--parents, teachers, college students, business owners--who want to do something good for themselves.
Based on the popular Galloway run:walk training method, the Marathon ROCKS program entails just two 30- to 45-minute runs on your own during the week and one long group run on Saturday mornings that gradually builds, mile by mile, to the full racing distance. All training is noncompetitive, supportive, and done at your pace!
Run With Purpose
Marathon ROCKS raises funds to benefit our local youth. The funds raised will go toward youth enrichment and recreational programs run through The YMCA of Talbot County. The minimum fund-raising commitment is $1,000. What an extraordinary feeling on race day to know that you are ready to go the distance and that you helped your community's youth in a very meaningful way!
Key Dates
February 27-May 8, Preconditioning Program: Haven't run in a long time, or ever? This 10-week program eases you into a regular running routine without getting the typical "too much, too soon" injuries that new runners get (aka, the dreaded shin splints). Although participants in this program will learn how the marathon training program works, you are encouraged to attend the informational meeting in April. Meets at the track at Idlewild Park every Saturday at 8 a.m.
CHANGED! April 28, Informational Meeting, Easton Middle School Library, 7 p.m.: Find out more about the training method, fund-raising strategies, and how to register for this incredible journey that will lead to one of the proudest moments of your life! The meeting will be held at the Easton Middle School library. The fund-raising discussion will be guest led by Graham Lee, Chief Development Officer of the YMCA.
May 15, Start of the 2010 Training Season: The team's kickoff run will start at 7 a.m. at Idlewild Park next to the tennis courts. Coaches Amy Eutsey and Lea Ann Robinson will time you on a 3-mile run to help us place you in pace groups. The half marathon program lasts 19 weeks this year, and the full marathon program lasts 25 weeks. Regardless of the program you are in, all runners/walkers work out together on Saturdays.
2010 Races
Half Marathon Race: Rock-n-Roll Philadelphia, Sept. 19 (formerly the Philly Distance Run)
Full Marathon Race: Marine Corps Marathon, Washington, DC, Oct. 31
Bonus Training Run: 1812 Half Marathon Course, Centerville, MD, Aug. 21. Trace the marches of the British and American troops to the battlefield in what will soon be a one-of-a-kind race. One course is flat and fast, the other rather hilly. (Hills on the Eastern Shore? Should be interesting!) This run is by invitation of groups like ours only.
All Marathon ROCKS participants are welcome to run all races (walkers cannot participate in the Marine Corps Marathon due to time restrictions).
Team Benefits
In addition to the group running experience, we offer the following benefits to every Marathon ROCKS team member:
A registration fee of $150 covers the cost of your race entry for one race and helps with t-shirt and racing singlet purchase and printing. If you want to run both races, an additional $95 is required to cover the cost of the MCM bib. Registration forms are now available for downloading: Marine Corps Marathon or RNR Philadelphia
